Install BioMedia
|
Overview:
BioMedia is an easy to use utility that helps you to configure your
Feedback Media Platform or
CogniVideo device.
It requires a PC with Microsoft Windows operating system.
If you are working through the step-by-step setup, it is helpful to have the BioMedia
application available to check your progress. Later, you can learn all the details of
this program, but for now, only basic tests will be used.
A Cognisys Media device will work on any computer that has
a spare USB Port. The BioMedia utility further requires a computer with Windows 98 or
later, and you will need a CD Drive to install the software.
If your PC is relatively new,
uses Windows XP Operating System, for example, and has USB ports available, you will
likely need no additional setup. Otherwise, if your computer does not have USB ports,
just buy a USB adapter card and install it according to the
instructions that come with that product. This process is relatively painless.
Double-click setup.exe on the release CD to install the application on your computer.
The installation process is straightforward and should be familiar to anyone who is a
regular computer user. It will ask you where to put the file, etc. Unless you have a special situation,
just choose the defaults as you load the program. This will also help us if you have any questions, as
we will know where things are.
This application assumes that you have "Dot Net" support on your computer.
If you have a recently installed computer, this may already be installed. If you need it, it is
available for free from Microsoft. (They don't let us distribute it directly.)
You will need to download the most recent version of 'dotnetfx.exe' from the
Microsoft MSDN Download Center.
If the above link does not work, go to the site http://www.microsoft.com/downloads and search for
".NET Framework Version 1.1 Redistributable Package" and download it. Note: The 2.0 package doesn't work.
Plug your FMP device or CogniVideo into the USB connector.
If it is the first time, Windows
will ask you if you want to install
a driver. Install the default driver for "Human Interface Device", which is supplied in the Windows release,
or in your USB board, if you had to add one.
When this is successfull, the device will blink the "Audio Detect" light three times and
your computer will notify you that new hardward has been found.
You may need to unplug the USB cable and plug it back in to get the three blinks on power-up.
Congratulations! It looks like you've installed the application and it has low-level
communication established with the device.
In the next topic, we will give you a brief and general overview of the BioMedia Application.
