CogniVideo Tips: BrainMaster
|
We will assume that you already understand how to set up your Brianmaster for
training. Our main task will be to get the software to produce a steady tone when you are
in the zone. You will want to tweak your thresholds to get the best results. Here are some specific instructions to get you started.
|
BrainMaster Version
BrainMaster made some significant improvements in the 2.5SE version of their software. You will need to upgrade to
that version (or later) to be able to effectively use it with your CogniVideo product. It can be downloaded from the
http://www.brainm.com As of this writing, the download is located here.
After you have updated your software, the Home Screen should appear similar to the example shown at the right.
|
|
|
Test Configuration
Start with the audio output going to speakers or headphones so you can verify that you are getting stable
and effective sound output.
In a laptop, you most likely have internal speakers, but it is a better test if you use headphones so the sound is
coming from the audio output jack. A desktop computer will have an audio output jack, usually green.
Click the
button on the Home Screen to open the Setup Options dialog.
When you have done so, the Setup Options dialog box will appear similar to the example shown at the right.
|
|
|
Click the
button on the Setup Options dialog box to open the Event Wizard.
When you have done so, the Event Wizard dialog box will appear similar to the example shown at the right.
To test your system, we will suggest configuration settings that will create a constant sound output, so you can confirm that the CogniVideo is receiving it. Later, you will add your training program details (which is beyond the scope of this tutorial.)
Your first step is to click
[Clear All Events]
to remove any previous settings, and then
[Disable All Events].
|
|
|
The settings in the Event Wizard can be summarized as follows:
- Event Number: 1
- This Event is: Enabled
- Visibility: Visible
- Event Condition:
- IF: [Use Entered Value:]
Constant [1.0]
- RULE: [IS GREATER THAN]
[Use Entered Value:]
Constant: [0.0]
- Event Result:
THEN: [Play Midi Sound]
- MIDI Sound Properties
- Starting Note: [85 A (7040.0)]
- Instrument: [73 Flute]
- Playing Style: [Sustained]
- Modulation: [Amplitude]
- Starting Loudness: [Level: 127]
- Loudness Change Rate: [0]
- Note Change Rate: [0]
- Musical Scale (Mode): [Chromatic]
- Musical Key: [A]
- Play Note or Chord: [1 Note]
The MIDI Sound Properties panel is shown in detail at the right.
When you have completed making the settings, click [OK]. This will return you to the Setup Options dialog box.
|
|
|
Click the
button on the Setup Options dialog box to open the Training Protocol dialog box.
The Training Protocol dialog box should appear similar to the one shown at right.
You will note that we have disabled everything. This means that the constant output will occur without regard to any
other constraints. We have found that with the simple constant settings in the Event Wizard, you can use this Training Protocol screen to setup your training has you have in the past. It seems that these should be disabled if you are going to use the more advanced Event Conditions.
When you have completed making the settings, click [OK]. This will return you to the Setup Option dialog box.
|
|
|
Click the
button on the Setup Options dialog box to open the Feedback Control dialog box.
The Feedback Control dialog box should appear similar to the one shown at right.
The only thing you need to do here is to select [X] Events (Use Event Wizard to Define)
When you have completed making the settings, click [OK]. This will return you to the Setup Options dialog box.
|
|
|
On the Setup Options dialog box, click
This will return you to the Home Screen.
|
|
|
On the Home Screen, click
This will open the Training/Control Screen.
|
|
|
On the Training/Control Screen, click
This will start the simulation and you will see a warning dialog box. Click OK, and the sound should be emitted.
|
|
Using the BioMedia application:
- Use the Audio Control method of interfacing.
- Connect the Audio Cable from the speaker output of your PC to the Audio In
Connector of the CogniVideo.
- Verify that the "Audio Detect" light on the CogniVideo front panel lights every time the
sound plays. (You won't be able to hear the sound. Turn the volume up on your PC.
CogniVideo Settings:
On the CogniVideo side, try
- Sound/Silence Detection
- High Freq Delta = 4;
- Control min = 0 (default)
- Control Max = 14
- Window Size = 60 (default)
- Reward Level % = 80 (default)
- Penalty Level % = 20 (default)
- [These settings are perhaps better if the subject is not too successful]
You might want to try these settings:
- Same as above except:
- Window Size = 1
- Reward % = 50, Penalty = 50
- (Note, requires firmware of at least 0.08)
Connect the Audio Cable directly to CogniVideo and it should detect the sound.
Now, customize your settings in you BrainMaster software according to your treatment protocol.
