Control Cable Connection: Equipment with Logic Output

Overview:

The FMP device will work with ANY equipment that uses a relay closure and opening to control auxiliary equipment. On your Biofeedback System, there may be a connector ("Switch") that is controlled by a relay. For example, on the Thought Technology Ltd. equipment, this connector is located on the ProSB module, or on the TT-USB module.

Step 1: Connect Cable to FMP

Connect the 3.5mm Audio Dubbing Cable to the FMP at the jack labeled "Audio In or Digital In"

Step 2: Activate Logic Mode

Using the BioMedia Application, set the Input Mode to Enable Logic Input and then click Save Settings.

Alternatively, turn the Threshold Knob on the front panel of the FMP fully clockwise.

Step 3: Signal Test

Test the response of the FMP device by shorting the Tip to the Sleeve of the free end of the 3.5mm Audio Dubbing Cable using any metal object, such as a paperclip. The Audio Detect Indicator on the Front panel should go on and off in direct relation to shorting the Tip to the Sleeve and then releasing it.

Step 4: Connect to Source

Connect the other end to your biofeedback hardware that provides the digital output. On Thought Technology equipment, you will have either the ProSB module (That connects to a serial port on your PC) or the TT-USB module (that connects to a USB port on your computer). There is a jack called "Switch" on these modules.
  • Thought Technology with ProUSB box: use 3.5mm cable.
  • Thought Technology with Serial Interface: use 2.5mm to 3.5mm cable.
This cable is available upon request. You probably should use audio control method instead, see details below.

SPECIAL NOTE:

Although TT provides this connector, older software may not effectively control this output. If you have not upgraded to "Infiniti Platform", then you will want to use the audio control method instead. Why? It's because the older software can only control the Switch output with one thresholded parameter, such as "enhance Alpha". You can't combine with "Inhibit Theta", for example, but you can do those with the audio control method.

If you are doing simple biofeedback (GSR, for example) you may only have one parameter, and then using digital control is still feasible.
