Overview:
For biofeedback equipment that does not provide a logic output,
the FMP device will detect sound or silence from your Biofeedback System from the
audio output (speaker) jack.
Plug a speaker or headphone into the speaker or headphone output of the Biofeedback System PC,
or use the integrated speakers, if present.
Test that you can get SOUND during intervals when you want the DVD to
play, and silence when you want it to PAUSE.
- Your Biofeedback System may be able to produce a solid tone or
silence without any additional setup. If so, make sure you adjust it to
modulate the Amplitude (volume) and not the Frequency (Note or Tone).
We don't care what note you play, just how loud it is.
- Or, use the MIDI file: sbatone_pausable_8min.mid
to produce these sounds. Try playing this MIDI file using Microsoft
Media Player, or RealNetworks Real Player to test your sound output. (You should be able to
double click the link above and listen to the tone.)
- Turn the volume up all the way on your PC volume control. It should
be an obnoxious sound! Try clicking PLAY - STOP - PLAY - STOP and insure
it is playing and pausing correctly.
Unplug the speaker or headphones you used in Step 1 and Plug the supplied
3.5mm "Audio Dubbing" Cable to that same jack.
Plug the other end of the Control Cable to the FMP device, at the
Audio-In/Digital-In connector.
Using the
BioMedia Application,
set the Input Mode
to Sound/Silence Detection
and then click Save Settings.
Turn the Threshold Knob on the front
panel of the FMP about halfway through the adjustment range.
Click PLAY - STOP - PLAY - STOP on
Microsoft Media Player or RealNetworks RealPlayer
and verify that the Audio Detect Indicator matches the state of the sound.
Adjust the Threshold Knob until this works reliably.
You may want to test your biofeedback software to make sure you get the same results when you go
over or under the threshold.
Notes:
Dynamic Threshold:
You will want to set up your Biofeedback software so that it uses a dynamic threshold, and set it
so that your subject is 85% to 90% successful.
Do not apply sound during Factory Reset:
It is important not to apply any sound via the
Audio-In/Digital-In connector during factory reset.
This is because the unit attempts to zero-out any offset of silence during that process.
