Ubi Programming

The first step of use is to program your UBI to control your DVD player or other equipment. Although it can control DVD, VCR, or CD players, we will only talk about controlling a DVD in this document for simplicity. If your are programming to control a different device, please substitute that device for each instance of "DVD" below.

This description does NOT deal with other compatibility issues, only the simple programming of the UBI device. Please see Player Compatibility Guide and Biofeedback System for further information.

Please refer to the instructions that we provide with your UBI regarding programming. There are two parts, a white programming guide and a green code numbers sheet. For completeness, we have included just the important stuff here (in case you have lost your programming guide). The following applies only to the UBI which is based on the SONY RM-V302 device.

DURING THIS PROGRAMMING PROCESS, LEAVE THE POWER SWITCH "OFF" ON THE BOTTOM OF THE UBI DEVICE. This will save your battery power as this switch on the bottom only activates our additional circuitboard that is used ONLY when the control input is untilized.

Step 1: Entering the code number

  1. See the supplied "Component Code Numbers", and find the three digit code number for the desired component. If more than one code number is listed, use the number that's listed first to complete the steps below. For example, if you're setting up a Philips' VCR, you would use the code number 035. If your component isn't listed, see "Searching for the Correct Code".
  2. Press and hold the SET button while pressing the POWER Button. (The SET button is a small recessed button at the top of the device across from the POWER button.
  3. Press the Selection Button of the component you want to set up (such as DVD) from one of the top buttons, labelled TV, VCR, CBL/SAT, DVD, or RCVR.
  4. Enter the component's code number. For example, if you're entering the code number for the Philips' VCR, press 0-3-5.
  5. Press and release the ENT (Enter) button to store the code number in memory.
  6. Goto "Step 2: Checking if the Code Number Works" to finish setting up.
  7. If you press a wrong button, just perform this "Step 1" over.

Step 2: Checking if the Code Number Works

  1. Power on the component you wish to set up (using the front panel or the remote supplied with that equipment).
  2. Press the Selection Button of the component you wish to test (like "DVD").
  3. Aim the UBI at the component and press a button to check if that button works. For example, pressing the POWER button to see if the component turns off. You must use a button that the component's supplied remote also supports. For example, some portable players don't offer a POWER button on their remote. In this case, use a different button to test the code number.
  4. Check that the other buttons of the UBI are operating the corresponding functions of the component.
  5. Once you find the code number, write it down inside the battery compartment lid.
  6. If it doesn't seem to be working:
    1. Try repeating the setup procedures using any other codes listed for this brand.
    2. Try the search method described below.
    3. If searching won't work, you can perform an exhaustive search by setting all code numbers per "Step 1" above and then trying this step. This is required if the component's remote does not offer POWER control from the remote.

Searching for the Correct Code

If you've tried all the code numbers listed for your component and you still cannot get the UBI to work, or if your component is not listed, try these steps:
  1. Power on the component you want to set up. Insert a tape or disk if necessary.
  2. First, program the code 001 using Step 1 above, and test it.
  3. While pressing the SET button, Press the POWER button.
  4. Press the Selection Button of the component you want to set up (such as DVD) from one of the top buttons, labelled TV, VCR, CBL/SAT, DVD, or RCVR.
  5. Press and release the CH+ button. Then press and release the POWER button. Keep track of the code number in your mind by counting from 001.
  6. Repeat step four above until the component responds to the POWER button. Each time you press CH+ button and then the POWER button, a new code number will be transmitted. Keep trying until your component operates by receiving the transmitted signal from the UBI. Be patient as you do this; it may take about 100 tries until the correct code number is located.
  7. Press and release the ENT (Enter) button to store the code number in memory.
  8. Goto "Step 2: Checking if the Code Number Works" to finish setting up.
  9. If you kept track of the number, try programming it directly with Step 1. If it doesn't work, perhaps you lost track, try the numbers in the area of your count.

Note: If you are working with equipment that does not provide the capability of turning the power on/off using the remote control (such as the Initial Brand DVD/TV units) then, the search method above does NOT work. You will have to use the long form of the search by setting code numbers one at a time, from 001 to 099 using "Step 1" above.

Component Code Numbers

DVD code numbers are listed below. For other component types, please refer to the sheet included with your UBI. NOTE: If you are using a combo VCR/DVD, set the remote to DVD and use the manual control on the front panel of the player to select VCR. Don't use the VCR mode of the remote.
